DAVE'S WORKS

Welcome to the page devoted to showcasing the creative talents, or alleged creative talents, perhaps, of the one, the only, Dave Hines. Currently, there's a only a few things here, but we hope this can grow!

Dave's News:

During the 1995-1996, Dave participated in Point Loma Nazarene College's own radio station, KPLR AM 620. As part of the training for that activity, Dave was required to record a news announcement. He asked the professor of the class whether or not real news was required, and when he was answered in the negative, Dave's news was born. Some of the transcripts still survive to this day!

At the beginning of the 1996-1997 school year, Dave attempted to keep up a syndicated version of Dave's News, which failed due to unintentional abuse of the tape keeping the show away from DJ's who wanted to carry it. However, one transcript remains: August 28th, 1996
Dirk Dangerous: Space Hero

In around 1993, a young Dave attempted to write a spoof in the oldtime "science fiction serial" genre. This story uses a lot of Dave's old friends from his Bulletin Board System (BBS) days' names. An incredibly rich man named Taurus Dracoon is captured, and his daughter Iridiscia tries to find Dirk Dangerous, a loner and mercenary who owes Taurus a favor. This story was never finished, but was MiSTed (with Dave's consent and request). The three parts of that MiSTing can be found here: Part I, Part II, and Part III.

Lines As-Q

As a MiSTer, Dave was quite familiar with the fanfiction work of Stephen B. Ratliff known as The Marrissa Stories. In the Star Trek, The Next Generation episode entitled "Disaster", the Enterprise is crippled by a Cosmic String Fragment and Captain Picard is trapped in the turbolift with three children. Stephen decides to take that meeting and spin it off into an epic series of stories in which Marrissa, one of the children forms a "Kid's Crew", is adopted by Picard, and eventually becomes Fleet Admiral. These stories have been regarded as prime MiSTing fodder since their discovery (coincidentally, by another guy named "David Hines"). In the non-canon work, Marrissa's Revenge II, Marrissa shows up at Stephen's house and promises revenge on all the authors who MiSTed her, including our very own Dave Hines. Dave took this idea and ran with it, coming up with this yarn, in which an alternate universe version of Dave is transported by Q to Marrissa's ship, the U.S.S. Endeavour just before the story "Generations II: Generations Ahead". Naturally, all sorts of hijinks ensure, including Dave attempting escape, a pro-wrestling match between Dave and Jay Gordon and Dave's encounter with Stephen's alien race, the Trakce. This is currently being MiSTed by Alicia Ashby, in her Mystery Wrestling Theater 3000 style.

Out of Time
Continuing the story begun in "Lines As-Q", Dave continues his "self-insertion" saga in the universe of the Marrissa stories. Dave cruises out to Deep Space Nine with his new friends, Crow, Servo and Gypsy and suddenly finds himself under arrest on charges of temporal espionage. However, a darker plot is hatched underneath.

The Glory of Lawndale High
My first Daria fanfic! A new student shows up at Lawndale High. But he's not the same as other students. How will Daria and company deal with a bully?

Upcoming additions will include some of Dave's attempts at poetry and descriptions of various characters he has created.
