This piece was written after resigning from the
position of Lab Assistant at the Ryan Library Computer Lab for the 2nd
and final time. The first time was due to my winning the election for ASB
Director of Activities and not being able to handle classes, work and ASB
all at the same time. This time, it was because I had been hired as a Web
Designer for Student Development. (On a side note, pretty much everything
I did for them has been replaced by web designers who succeeded me. Eventually,
I want to try to post some historical research pieces I did onto my Homepage,
because I'm really proud of them and actually got feedback from the families
of those who I researched).
In both of my jobs working with the public at Point Loma, I saw the occasional bad side of people. But it was unfortunately most pronounced when I worked in the Cafeteria my first year. In my article The Limit Dilemma, I mention the idea of taking enough "chicken fingers" to reassemble a whole chicken. This was something I actually saw happen once, and unfortunately resulted in a pile of wasted chicken. The Cafeteria's policy was that students were supposed to bus their own tables, but so many people ignored this that there had to be a person on busing duty.
This is perhaps the article that I got the most thanks for, as it seemed I was far from alone in my insights, and most of those thanks came from employees of the Cafeteria.
And for any of you guys wondering, no I never got anyone calling me out for mistreatment of employees per my challenge in the last paragraph, which is good. No one wants to be a hypocrite.
Of course, the title is derived from an out of context quotation.
