Favorite Worship/Praise song?

Postby sharien chan » Wed Feb 13, 2008 7:42 pm

I'm just curious as to what your favorite worship/praise song is. I'm always looking for new ones I haven't heard so....

well as for mine right now I think it's Ross Kings' version of Days of Elijab  It gets me so happy and pumped and excited about God

Many Praise and Worship songs these days seem very uninteresting and trite (commercialistic and cliche), lacking in imagination and talent but there are some I do enjoy.
Two of my absolute favourites are: 'Grace Like Rain' by Todd Agnew, and 'Heart of Worship' by Matt Redman.

I actually have the Your Love Oh Lord by third day on my to buy list (I have a huge list of songs I hear in church).
And as for the GraceLike Rain, and Matt Redman in general, I love those songs.

here are my top 5 worship songs:

When I Think About the Lord - Shane&Shane
How Great is Our God and Indescribable - Chris Tomlin
Stir in Me and Mighty to Save- Hillsong

"Sometimes we don't present the Gospel well enough for the non-elect to reject it."
- John MacArthur

"In the total expanse of the human life, there is not a single square inch of which Christ, who alone is sovereign, does not declare, 'That is mine'."
- Abraham Kuyper

"God the great Creator of all things doth uphold, direct, dispose, and govern all creatures, actions, and things, from the greatest even to the least, by His most wise and holy providence, according to His infallible foreknowledge and the free and immutable counsel of His own will, to the praise of the glory of His wisdom, power, justice, goodness, and mercy."
- Westminister Confession of Faith (Chapter 5, Section 1)

"The wisdom of God has found a way for the love of God to deliver sinners from the wrath of God all the while upholding the righteousness of God!!"
- John Piper

"Grace is the pleasure of God to magnify the worth of God by giving sinners the right and power to delight in God without obscuring the glory of God!"
-John Piper

"The very One from Whom we need to be saved, is the One Who has saved us."
- R.C. Sproul

"All of Christian life is ceaseless worship of God the Father, through the mediatorship of God the Son, by the indwelling power of God the Spirit, doing what God commands in Scripture, not doing what God forbids in Scripture, in culturally contextualized ways, for the furtherance of the Gospel, when both gathered for adoration, and scattered for action, in joyous response to God's glorious grace."
- Mark Driscoll

"Believers do not pray with the view of informing God about things unknown to Him, or of exciting Him to do His duty, or of urging Him as though He were reluctant. On the contrary, they pray in order that they may arouse themselves to seek Him, that they may exercise their faith in meditating on His promises, that they may relieve themselves from their anxieties by pouring them into His bosom; in a word, that they may declare that from Him alone they hope and expect, both for themselves and for others, all good things."
- Martin Luther

"I have to tell you first that I am ready to die. I have put my affairs in order. Your supreme weapon is killing. My supreme weapon is dying, because when you kill me, people all over Romania will read my books and believe on the God that I preach - even more than they do now."
- Dr. Joseph Ton, the exiled Romanian pastor (quoted by James Montgomery Boice)

"The best prayer I ever prayed had enough sin in it to condemn the whole world."
- John Bunyan

"If the Christian has lost sight of Calvary, that shows that he has lost his way."

I love pretty much all worship music, so it's kinda hard to just pick favourites. I especially love music that I can relate to/that applies to my life.

"What if God Was One of Us" -Alanis Morisette
"Awesome God" -DC Talk (I love every version, but this one is my fave)
"Promise of a Lifetime" -Kutless
"Only Hope" -Switchfoot/Mandy Moore
"I Can Only Imagine" -MercyMe
"Come to Jesus" -Chris Rice
"This Man" -Jeremy Camp

...okay, so that was more than a few. ^^; I highly recommend the soundtrack "WOWHITS 2007". It has a lot of really uplifting songs. My aunt got it for me, and I listen to it every day.

"What if God Was One of Us" -Alanis Morisette is has good lyrics but the tune is mediocre and it's certainly not a Christian worship song (Alanis Morisette isn't a Christian, or at least wasn't back when the song was written).

I love it when songs that aren't christian or worship songs turn out to have a lot of praise in them. I was talking about it with my boyfriend, and he said that God will use anything to speak to people, so sometimes He comes out in songs that aren't talking about God at all. But just certain lyrics just radiate something about God, which I thought was really cool. I also love it when Christian songs get popular, and it's so obvious that they're about God, but a lot of people don't realize it (Like Flyleaf's songs, or the new single from Red Jumpsuit Apparatus:Guardian Angel)

Yes! That reminds me of Relient K--it seems to be a band popular among the non-Christian crowd.

I have quite a few:
"How Can I Keep From Singing" by Chris Tomlin
"Give Me Words to Speak"
any Casting Crowns song
"I Can Only Imagine" by Mercy Me
oh, and for the record, Alanis Morrissette didn't sing "One of Us." That was Joan Osborne.
"Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you. I appointed you to be a prophet of all nations."
--Jeremiah 1:5

Reliant K, Flyleaf etc. are Christian bands but they don't belong to the praise and worship genre. Of course you can still use some of their songs to glorify God but they aren't the sort of song you'd sing in church.

Yeah I don't see how a song about emotional girls sometimes get can be a worship song.

It's not that its a church worship song, but outside of church it can still be used to praise God. In church today we talked about how worship is the condition of your heart, not just the things you do. So anything you do can be worship as long as your doing it to praise God.

Ah, I love Your Guardian Angel by The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus! Even though it's not exactly about God, the lyrics (especially the mention of heaven) really make you think about Him. I listen to it all the time! As for others...

 • "Head Over Heels (In This Life)" - Switchfoot (I can't seem to figure out if the song is about God or the lead singer's wife, but either way, it always makes me think about my relationship with God. XD So it's going on my list.)
 • "Learning To Breath" - Switchfoot
 • "Only Hope" - Switchfoot
 • "Dare You To Move" - Switchfoot
 • "We Are One Tonight" - Switchfoot
 • "Awakening" - Switchfoot
 • "God-Shaped Hole" - Plumb
 • "Place In This World" - Michael W. Smith
 • "Awesome God" - Michael W. Smith
 • "Friends" - Michael W. Smith
 • "Agnus Dei" - Michael W. Smith
 • "All Who Are Thirsty" - Kutless
 • "Dismantle.Repair." - Anberlin
 • "The Unwinding Cable Car" - Anberlin
 • "You First Believed" - Hoku

I know they're not all aimed directly at God, but... they do make me think of Him, and that's what counts, right? X3;

I think the Red jumpsuit apparatus may be about God and thats how they chose it to be. In their music video there is no girl, which makes me think that maybe it is about God.
When you look at the lyrics it seems like it jumps back and forth between man, God and Jesus speaking. Which is really cool, even if it wasn't their intended purpose.

Ooh, really? I've never seen the entire music video before, so that's interesting!

Either way, I know exactly what you mean. I find the lyrics to be a nice change from most songs out there because the message of love in this one is more similar to the divine, pure, self-sacrificing "agape" kind of love that's mentioned in the Bible. So you can easily connect it to God, which is awesome!

And wow, I can't believe I forgot to add "Stars" by Switchfoot to my list. XD; I guess it's obvious I'm a fan of this group, eh?

They aren't on a Christian label, but on the back of their cd they keep thanking God and going on in a way that makes them seem Christian. So I'm guessing they, or someone in the band is Christian.

There are probably too many favorites to mention...

Here's one...

From The Inside Out
by Hillsong United
album: United We Stand (2006)

A thousand times I've failed
Still Your mercy remains And should I stumble again
I'm caught in Your grace
Everlasting
Your light will shine when all else fades
Never ending
Your glory goes beyond all fame

Your will above all else
My purpose remains
The art of losing myself
In bringing You praise
Everlasting
Your light will shine when all else fades
Never ending
Your glory goes beyond all fame

In my heart and my soul
Lord I give You control
Consume me from the inside out
Lord let justice and praise
Become my embrace
To love you from the inside out

Everlasting
Your light will shine when all else fades
Never ending
Your glory goes beyond all fame
And the cry of my heart
Is to bring You praise
From the inside out
Lord my soul cries out
"Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal." 2 Corinthians 4:16-18

"Since the creation of the Internet, the Earth's rotation has been fueled, primarily, by the collective spinning of English teachers in their graves."
