Server Fixed! (Was: Server Explodes! 24 hour outage)

Postby Mithrandir » Sat Feb 24, 2007 3:29 pm

EDIT (2/27):
We're back up on the live server now. Have fun!!!

Hi everyone,

I was able to borrow another server temporarily, so we're hobbling along here. Don't expect access to be anywhere near as fast, or as stable as it used to be. I'm still not expecting our fully functional server until about a week, so please be patient with us.

As you might expect, this means the server will go down for an hour or so in the next week, as the replacement parts are installed. We appreciate your patience.

Thanks,
Mithrandir

PS: That "or as stable" line above really means what it says. This server may go offline from time to time. If it does, I'm sure I'll have it back up and running within 24 hours.

I just happened to find it working after getting home from job-searching, and hey, slow CAA is better than no CAA, it would seem. XD Welcome back, anyways. XD

I was kinda surprised to see you post, actually. When I finally got the server to respond to my summons, you were there. I think you logged in about the exact time I got the networking subsystems on-line.

XD Yeah, that's right, I was watching CAA the entire time of the outage. But no, I actually had JUST returned to the page to check for updates. XD I really do have a life, it just seems like I don't use it that often. XDD

Thanks, Mith! The stand-in server should count itself lucky - for a short while it will be the oft-visited center of attention for our CAA throng. Until it must relinquish its position of favour again...

I am shocked we are back up already. Since my connection is slower then death I don't notice any difference. To those who do, suck it up and welcome to my world. *laughs*

Mith - Thank you for all the hard work in keeping this board running. I'm sure you can't wait for the new power supply, and neither can we, but glad to have you working on our side of the equation!

I never noticed a difference either^^ So things are running good at my end too. I was a little worried this morning that the server wouldn't be running for like a loooong time or something :/ But a fixed server is definately better than an unstable one^^

I notice nothing, but like Ark, my connection is sloooooooooow. (Not dial-up; that clocks faster.)

CAA is running slow? I haven't noticed

::Uses Dial-up, and is not complaining::

Anyway, partial CAA is better than NO CAA. Guess we gotta rough it...

...or we could hook up a bicycle generator and take turns peddling to power the server until the power supply comes on. And seeing as how Mith is the admin, I nominate him to take the first thousand miles.

Heh. Actually, we are. It really went BANG and then stopped working. I blame a capacitor, but I'll let the techs figure it out..

WOAAH.. I leave for Kansas City for a DAY and the whole place falls apart... I must be a good luck charm or something...

OKAY I AM KIDDING!

Anyways We really appreicate all the good work you put into making the Christian Anime Fan's life fun, while at the same time, still keeping God first. I am amazed at all the hard work you put into making this site as great as it is!

And like everyone has said, a server taht is temporary is sooo much better than no CAA at all..

My apologies to those who didn't get the message earlier today. We're back up and running, and we're on the main server. CAA is purring right along, and I think we're past the hump.

Have fun!
