Livechat 3.7 brings back the bip!

Postby Mithrandir » Fri Jun 23, 2006 1:09 pm

What's new?
For a limited subset of users, the bip function is back in action. Login to the chat normally and click the "On" radio button under the heading "bip." Consult the chat help page for additional information.

What's a bip?
For those of you who don't know, "bip" is a short sound that get's played whenever the screen displaying text is updated (a user shows up, posts or leaves). Consult the chat help page for additional information.

What's the catch?
The catch is, Firefox for PC is complaining about this for the time being. I'm working on figuring out exactly why, and getting it fixed. Consult the chat help page for additional information.

In the mean time, have fun!

For me, in Firefox on the PC, I am getting a buzz-like sound starting from my right side and moving towards and ending on the left side... instead of a "bip."

But that's cool. It still fulfills the role of auditory notification of chat activity.
Find me on Steam, PlayStation Network (OmegaAmen), Backloggery, Twitter, and Twitch.tv

Not sure if this should go here or in comments, but... Well, ever since I tried using it on firefox (because you said don't touch, I touched... Geez... Call me Adam), chat has been screwy for me... I turned bip right back off, but it still bips (actually, it didn't start bipping until I turned it off...?) and the lag is really strong, now... I'm not sure if the two are related, but when I seem to be the only one having these problems... It gets to the point where I can type and everyone can see me, but I can't see them. Oh, and even with Bip turned off, it keeps saying "Bobtheduck just logged in" I'm gonna just use IE for chats now...

I do like the idea that I'll hear who's messaged, but it also doesn't seem to work when IE is minimized or another program is on top of it...

Hmm... Are you running any spyware or adblocking software? It sounds like something in interfering with the system. Odd.

No spyware blocking, but I am running norton... Does that help? It includeds the firewall and the virus scanner...

Oh, and the Chat has (since Bip) been randomly, like, cutting me off from the chat even in IE.

Hmm... Are other people experiencing this too? I may end up having to unbip to make it work again. That would be annoying.

It's supposed to. I don't know why that's annoying, though. I thought it was cool sounding. Since the majority of the feedback I've received was positive, I'm not going to make any major changes just yet.

Hey, uh, Mith, the bip was working for me in Firefox until recently. Now it shows a Quicktime...bar...thing...on which if you click play, the sound plays, but when someone posts a message it doesn't play.

Uh oh.

*thinks for a minute*

...But I didn't change anything...

It works for me, but you can't have any tabs open.

For me, the bip didn't work until that little box showed up. So it works perfect for me now. It also works with other tabs open. o.o

The bip, or the chat in general...?

OK. I've been working on it a little; maybe I've fixed something.
