Private Messages going through?

Postby Mr. SmartyPants » Thu Apr 27, 2006 3:15 pm

Is it possible for private messages to not go through? Two times I was in a conversation with someone. And after sending a PM, I never got a reply back. Now I don't know if the receiver simply didn't find it necessary to send one. (maybe they sent one and I didn't get it) But is it possible? I want to make sure before I inquire someone if they got my PM or not/

Awww, my Yun is so thoughtful (hug). I found that to happen to me as well. Hmm, I'm not sure. I know if your inbox is full it won't go through, but it usually tells you tho.

If you're pretty bad at replying to PMs and emails like me because you're too busy and have lost track , there probably isn't anything wrong with the system. In such cases, I would highly appreciate it if someone PMs me to remind me to reply to their messages.

This was the perfect opportunity to explain my poor capability at tracking PM responses but I really should leave it to OldMith or Shooby to address any technical glitches.

If your Inbox suggests that you have replied to a PM or there is something in your Outbox, then it was definitely sent. It cannot be lost on the way as far as I know. However, there are times when your PM will fail to send, such as database glitches or when your computer's connection may be faulty.

There has only been one error since last february, and that was due to a join that resulted in too much text for a digest email notification. Probably people aren't reading your PM, or aren't responding. I have well over a thousand PMs (for security reasons, the system will always deliver a PM to me now), so I tend to only respond when there is dire need of a response. Bottom line is: If you get a message saying, "PM sent successfully" then you can be sure the PM went through.

It has happened to me, many times. I tend to get on long PM sending chains with Christianfriend, and a lot of times they're cut short because a PM doesn't go through, and I even ask her if she got it and she says she didn't, and we always reply, even if it doesn't seem necessary. It even shows up in my outbox, but still doesn't go through. It usually only happens when a long chain of PMs have been going with the same title. But if I change the title, it goes through the second time. Like Mith said, it's probably some database glitch or connection blip.

How long ago did you send the PM to him? All the mods/admins are voluenteers who have real full-time lifes outside of CAA. It may take a few days for the one person you PM'd to login and get your message, process it, and get back to you.

Just on a note, I haven't been having any problems at all lately with PMs going through, so I doubt there's anything wrong, just a connection blip now and then perhaps.

Gah! Is this still not taken care of? Do you not want your name change anymore? If Link didn't see it, I can do the name change for you.

So... You would like your name changed from "Mega" to "Mega.EXE" then. Are you sure? CAA's name change policy (read the FAQ above) is one name change per member.

I'll make the change when I receive confirmation that you DO want the change.
