check this review out. seems like another "failed" attempt in recreating the Bible as a manga...

I figured ultimately this venture would be disappointing, but it's still kinda sad to see that I was right. :\

The reviewer (and poster above me) are pretty much right though. The Bible is just way too difficult to turn into a comic of any sort.

It might have worked out better if they made it a series instead of trying to condense it all into one volume.

that's exactly what i think. squeezing all of it into one extra-large volume simply doesn't do the Bible justice.

Did they get an advance copy of this? I've had it on preorder for a while and still haven't seen it.

In any case, I suspect what was said in the review will be correct and my own may voice many of the same concerns. Really, I think graphic novels about the Bible need to cover specific events in great detail or they won't accomplish anything.

Or maybe try to cover one specific story in detail by a series of volumes like the life of David?

hm, i saw a manga Bible at barnes and noble a little while ago, but i don't think it was the same one.

it was basically just a Bible with several spurts of glossy colored "manga" pages inserted here and there... and it wasn't even manga, quite lazily done, i thought. seemed to be more about comedy, at least what i saw of their telling about David's slaying of Goliath. they completely missed the idea of manga being able to be a completely serious method of storytelling... >_<

I actually saw a different kind of Manga Bible today when I drove from the cosplay gathering to the Family Christian Store we have in Escondido. I wanted to get some new Christian bumper stickers in the store that says "God Rocks" and "Jesus is the Answer". And then I found a Manga style Bible in the Bible section for teens (a section to help teens better understand the Bible). I thought about picking it up sometime because it does look interesting.

Oh excellent... I was just coming here to ask about this. Actually, I've found different books all claiming to be Manga Bibles and I was curious if they were actually any good.

The one reviewed looks like a condensed one of the ones by these UK artists that I was looking at (on Amazon.co.uk you can get "Raw" versions of just the OT and the NT which have more in it apparently... but they don't seem to be available in america aside from the edition reviewed here). Seeing how, according to Amazon, it only has something like 227 pages, I don't see how it can be any good.
