Initial D (Jump to title)
- Overall: 8
- Violence Rating: 3
- Nudity Rating: 3
- Theological Themes: 1
- Other Negative Themes: 7
Review Initial D is easily my favorite anime, it's about cars, racing culture, and the need for speed. The unfortunate downside is that this is revealed as street racing (thus the 7 rating under problematic themes) and it does have some swearing throughout the series.
Additional note: Avoid the TokyoPop release of this series at all costs. The dub changed names, replaced the music track with really bad hip hop tracks in an attempt to "The Fast and The Furious"-ify the series and they failed miserably. Funimation currently has the rights to the show and the completely redubbed First Stage the way it should have been done.

The first season of "Initial D", commonly referred to as First Stage, was spread over 24 episodes and followed the rise of Takumi Fujiwara from a high school kid with no interest in anything to being the most revered racer on Mount Akina.

Violence/Gore: There are a few car wrecks in the series. You don't see any blood or mangled bodies, but in the aftermath you see a couple of characters bandaged up, and in this first series it's rather cartoonish and comical about it all.

Nudity/Sexual Content: There are a few crude jokes here and there, but nothing of real concern. The biggest issue someone will probably have will be with the apparel of the characters Mako and Sayuki who are member of team Impact Blue. Their skirts are a little too short and they hang on each other a little too much, giving a wrong impression if you don't know the characters, worse off: they're in the first opening animation. There is also a relationship that is heavily implied between Takumi's love interest an an older man who drives a Mercedes-Benz. Again, nothing is ever seen, but things are often implied that it's not a father/daughter relationship and in a later series it's confirmed that the two are having an inappropriate relationship.

Theological Problems: This anime has no theology in it.

Other potential problems: As stated before, this anime is about nothing but street racing, the glory and, in some minor cases, the consequences it brings. If you are able to discern the difference between what is safe and what is not, then this should not be a problem.

Review/Rating Details: The music in these series is very take it or leave it. It's a genre of electronic dance music known as Eurobeat and it came as a melding between Jpop and Happy Hardcore. It's very self-aware of what it is, and it's not trying to save the world, but it's definitely there and can be quite overwhelming.
Initial D: Extra Stage (Jump to title)
- Overall: 5
- Violence Rating: 1
- Nudity Rating: 5
- Theological Themes: 1
- Other Negative Themes: 7
Review Hands down, this was bizarre. It started off as a very good prequel to Second Stage and then it just got...awkward. I can't really recommend this to anyone unless you want to watch all of Initial D.

Violence/Gore: There really isn't any violence in this anime.

Nudity/Sexual Content: The second part of this OVA involve a snow retreat with the Blue Impact team and meeting boys and...well yeah. They dress somewhat inappropriately, there are some situations, and there is a detailed bath scene featuring both members of the Impact Blue.

Theological issues: There is no theology in this anime.

Other potential problems: As with the previous series, this anime is about nothing but street racing, the glory and, in some minor cases, the consequences it brings. If you are able to discern the difference between what is safe and what is not, then this should not be a problem.

Initial D: Extra Stage 2: Tabidachi no Green (Jump to title)
- Overall: 7
- Violence Rating: 1
- Nudity Rating: 4
- Theological Themes: 1
- Other Negative Themes: 7
Review While much better than the previous Extra Stage OVA, there was still a bit to be desired in this one. This is very much worth watching just for the closure to the relationship between Iketani and Mako and to see what happens to Impact Blue.

Violence/Gore: No violence in this anime.

Nudity/Sexual Content: There is a bath scene with Mako.

Theological Issues: There is no theology in this anime.

Initial D: Fourth Stage (Jump to title)
- Overall: 9
- Violence Rating: 4
- Nudity Rating: 1
- Theological Themes: 1
- Other Negative Themes: 5
Review The most realistic of all the "Stages", Fourth Stage aired two episodes a month, every other month, over the course of two years. If you completely were to disregard Third Stage, this would be the best of the series in terms of character depth, animation quality, the challenges faced by the team, and so on.

Violence/Gore: This season seemed to have a noticeable uptick in vehicular carnage. One character has a rollover accident, becomes so fatigued after numerous runs one a stage that he becomes ill mid-stage and has to vomit, and another character completely totals his car in a plot-centric race.

Nudity/Sexual Content: No nudity, no sexual content. There is a female character who expresses feelings for another main character in this series but that's all.

Theological issues: Again, as before, there is no theology in this anime.

Other potential problems: This series, while taking an upturn in wreckage and having an overall darker feel, actually did a better job when it came to the view of street racing. The characters are still street racing, and they are still doing it illegally, so don't let that fool you, however, Project D runs the show like a professional business, closing down the roads as best they can, running radios in the drivers cars so they can stop the races if someone goes through their road blocks. So while this is still promoting an illegal behavior, I've kicked down the score here because of how this series has the characters handling themselves.

Initial D: Second Stage (Jump to title)
- Overall: 9
- Violence Rating: 4
- Nudity Rating: 2
- Theological Themes: 1
- Other Negative Themes: 7
Review Second Stage of Initial D differs from First Stage in being slightly more realistic and the overall quality of the show being better. A 12 episode series this was far more focused than the series that preceded it.

Violence/Gore: Less accidents occur this time around, however, I've given this one an increased rating due to characters intentional causing others to be hurt. Spoiler: One character pours oil on a roadway to cause a driver to wreck out.

Nudity/Sexual Content: There is a romantic situation between two characters, but nothing is ever seen or implied that anything happens. There are some jokes made about it however.

Theological issues: There is no theology in this anime.

Initial D: Third Stage (Jump to title)
- Overall: 10
- Violence Rating: 9
- Nudity Rating: 3
- Theological Themes: 1
- Other Negative Themes: 7
Review Unlike First and Second Stages, Third Stage was a theatrical release, and I still consider it to be the best of all the Initial D releases to date. This cut out all the extra details, there wasn't anything that was unnecessary to the story, it was a revenge story, a tale of old blood, and one of a love being remembered.

Violence/Gore: There is an attempted rape scene near the end of the movie. It's unsuccessful, you don't see any undergarments or things you otherwise shouldn't see, but because of the fact this is in there I must give this category a 9 rating.

Nudity/Sexual Content: See above.

Theological content: There is no theology in this anime.

Other potential problems: As with the previous series, this anime is about nothing but street racing, the glory and, in some minor cases, the consequences it brings. If you are able to discern the difference between what is safe and what is not, then this should not be a problem.
