Review This show is particularly interesting because although you mostly only see the characters "in-game" it is really about who they are as people outside in the real world.

But the most awesome thing about this anime is the music: amazing electronic world-beat folky wonderfulness, in both Japanese and English. Get both albums--you won't be sorry. I buy this music as presents for people who would never watch the anime.

Review Ah! My Goddess is a sweet anime about a nerdy young mechanic who accidentally calls the Goddess help line and gets the "Goddess" Belldandy assigned to him. There follows a very sweet and slow romance, with a lot of goofiness to keep you entertained. Most of the goofiness is supplied by Belldandy's sisters, who also show up.

Sex and theology ratings: Belldandy is based on the Norse goddess of the present, so her sisters stand for the past and the future. The older sister Urd is a bit sex-obsessed and wants to move the relationship along, but never gets anywhere. It's very hard to rate this title theologically. To a large degree the "goddesses" are presented as high-tech magical aliens running a large computer server, but we do get a glance of their boss, who is referred to as "Kami-sama" in Japanese or "Almighty" in English, which is a little disturbing. But it's hard to imagine anyone taking the "theology" of this universe seriously.

This is the first animation, and the movie follows. If you are wondering whether to watch this or the anime, it depends on how long you want to spend. The anime tells the same story, but much much slower. They are both first-rate however.

Review The heroine of Fruits Basket is one of the truly best people you will ever see in an anime. Essentially this is the story of how someone who is trying their best to truly love (in what you can only think of as an agape sense) moves into a family full of dark secrets and difficult relationships and changes everything. This is one of my favorite animes to show to young people who are trying to figure out what kind of people to be, since it actually shows character change, which is pretty rare in any kind of show.
Warning: the story is not finished in the anime, and you have to go to the manga to see how it all turns out.
