Commentary: Use Caution When Slamming The Gavel

This is a column which I believe was good for its time, but does not age well. At least, not without an example of the kind of columns I was talking about. It's almost hard for me to remember, as it was over three years ago.

This column contained a little bit of venting from me. First off, I subtly insult those who collect a number of devotional books. I have no problem with sincere Christians who get devotional books to help try to further their faith. However, I knew some people who apparently just bought the things to show off with, while still living as they see fit.

Secondly, being someone whose personality was a little different than everyone else, I've been the victim of quite a few of the sarcastic "dive bomb" attacks by people who called themselves good Christians. I was especially annoyed when people would pretend to be telling me something "for my own good" when it was exceedingly obvious that their sole goal was to promote themselves by putting me down.

While this column was fairly centered on my own experiences, I know there were others who had to put up with the same nonsense, and I hope I spoke for a few of them as well.

This column's title is one of the rare instances where I liked the editor's title more than my original title.
